The well-known “Girl with an oar” sculpture by Ivan Shadr in the original author's version will be exhibited in the Russian museum, St. Petersburg, in June.
For the first time in seventy years Russians will see all the available copies of the “Girl with an oar”. Visitors will also see the original of the head, on which the sculptor worked for about three months.
Ivan Shadr has created the”Girl” in 1930. The figure of a naked girl holding an oar came to decorate parks all over the Soviet Union. It became a typical image of park sculpture of that epoch, along with fountains and statues of saluting pioneers. However, later the girl stopped being naked and was dressed modestly.
In the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg “Girl with an oar” will be displayed from June, 12th. After that it will settle in its permanent residence in the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val.
