Today, 24 April, Russian Christians celebrate Easter. Overnight festive services took place all over Russia. The main one was held by Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
Specially for this day the Holy Fire was delivered form Jerusalem to Moscow by plane. The Fire made its customary appearance at the church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem on April 23. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill lit candles from the Fire and passed it to all believers in the Cathedral. After this the Easter sacred procession began around the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
About five thousand people are reported to have attended the service. To get to the service one should have got an invitation.
Easter celebrations in Russia include going to church, eating Easter eggs and Easter cakes, visiting friends, sharing the Good News greeting one another "Christ is risen" with the response "Risen indeed".
