Petersburg Architecture Committee has issued an order on the layout project of 14 hectares in Lakhta, where Gazprom plans to build its headquarters in Petersburg.
The architectural concept of the business center will be based on the project, which was earlier developed for building in the mouth of Okhta.
The concept developed by the architect of British studio RJRM Phillip Nikandrov provides building of a block of houses topped with a 400-meter skyscraper. The desire of Gazprom to erect this skyscraper in the mouth of Okhta, for over 5 years had been stirring a storm of indignation among Petersburg oppositionists, trying to protect the historical view of the city from this gigantic business tower.
In its turn Gazprom spent enormous amounts (according to some data, nearby 1 milliard roubles in total) on processing of public opinion and promoting the positive image of its tower.
