Only 30 Percent of Waste are Utilized in Russia, the Rest Go to Dumps

Only 30 percent of wastes in Russia are utilized, whereas the other part is disposed to dumps, the total area of which already exceeds a quarter of a million hectares, the State Office of Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation informs.

The problem of waste recycling is one of the major threats to ecological safety and health of the population of Russia, the supervising department points out.

Bringing the existing waste storage sites in Russia into an epidemically safe condition is becoming more and more important for social security. According to the department, the number of unapproved dumps in Russia exceeds 14 thousand.
