The world famous artist and sculptor Mihail Chemiakin has presented the animation film Hoffmaniada based on his sketches at the international television market in Cannes.
The studio has spent $500 thousand on the fairy tale, which has been shot for already more than eight years. However, in order to finish the project, the Soyuzmultfilm studio required $ 5 million more.
Mihail Chemiakin, the aficionado of Hoffmann’s books, creates the writer’s fancy realm by means of puppets and scenery combined with traditional 2D animation and computer graphics. Four more years of work are ahead.
“Unfortunately, money is allocated in dribs and drabs. You work for one week and wait for three months. Soyuzmultfilm is attacked from different sides. For example, Oleg Deripaska intends to construct a hotel in the territory of the studio. Unfortunately, the government in this country allocates as much assets for culture in Russia as it is allocated in tiny Austria. The power is inclined to support sports, but not culture”- Mihail Chemiakin said.
