Large Drinking Water Source in Zlatoust to be Polluted

Inhabitants of the city of Zlatoust have been thrown into a dilemma: new workplaces or ecology. Destiny of a drinking water source is at stake.

April, 5th will see public hearings in Zlatoust concerning the working out of a deposit of magnesites near the Aisk water basin.

In the course of the hearings the participants are supposed to decide what is more important: new workplaces (around 120 of them will be there) or ecology.
The problem is that, according to forecasts of experts, extraction of magnesites will negatively affect the condition of the Aisk water basin, which has already critically shoaled during the summer drought of 2010.

Ecologists state that there is a risk of losing this important drinking water source, which supplies with water three districts of Zlatoust.
