This weekend new Russian regulations on telling whether a driver is drunk, or not, have come into operation.
From now then medics are obliged to trust only analyzers (special devices to measure alcohol content in breath or in blood). Clinical performance, e.g. staggering, rambling, and unhealthy complexion, cannot be taken into consideration anymore.
However, new regulations are not a remedy against mistakes, since no ideal devices exist, and all of them have their own errors. Mass media previously reported, that Russian traffic officers would keep in mind possible errors of alcohol analyzers, which can reach 0.05 per mille, however, no official orders on this subject were issued.
The law, totally banning of drinking and driving, came into force on August 06, 2010.
