Dostoevsky Monument Unveiled in Tobolsk

A monument to the well-known writer Fyodor Dostoevsky has been unveiled in Tobolsk today.
A bronze sculpture depicting Fyodor Dostoyevsky sitting on a bench with an opened gospel book has been set up by the building of transit prison in Oktyabrskaya Street, not far from Fyodor Dostoevsky Square. Dostoevsky has spent 10 days here in casemates on his way to the convict prison in the city of Omsk.
It is not accidental that Tobolsk has chosen this person: one of the hardest periods in the writers life was connected with this city. After remission of his death sentence in St. Petersburg Dostoyevsky was exiled to Omsk prison through Tobolsk, and spent 10 days in the transit prison there.
Dostoevsky monument is sculptor Michael Pereyaslavets third work created for Tobolsk. The first two works are the monuments to writer Pyotr Yershov and researcher Alexander Dunin-Gorkavich.
