Discovery Communications, parent of some of the biggest cable networks in the United States, including Discovery Channel and TLC, has detailed plans to expand into Russia. They were probably pouring shots of vodka at Discovery Communications HQ in Maryland when the plans were for a major Russian expansion were announced Wednesday.
“Russia is one of the most dynamic markets in the world and Discovery Communications is focused on increasing a number of high quality services from our brand portfolio in the market," Zaslav said.
Discovery Communications' president and CEO David Zaslav announced that the Discovery Channel will be introducing a science education block called "Crazy Break" in early 2011. The company said it hopes will "inspire young people's passion for science, mathematics and engineering."
Discovery is also be making hires for its new Moscow office. The company will grow its programming, ad sales and affiliate operations in Russia. Aspiring execution managers who don't mind cold weather and are experts in Russian might want to send in their CVs.
