A Russian expedition vessel has been detained in the Canadian port of St. John's on the island of Newfoundland over debts.
Pyotr Osichansky of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) said on Thursday that "the vessel was seized following a suit by a haulage contractor over a $251,000 debt". Canadian ITF inspectors will visit the ship in the next few hours.
The Lyubov Orlova is crewed by 49 Russian nationals and two Ukrainians. The crew members are appealing to the Russian authorities to help bring them home. There's information that in about 7 days the crew would run out of food and pure water.
