Water level of the World Ocean is expected to rise as much as 50 cm by the end of the XI century due to climate change, Russian climatologists warn.
Climatic changes have two types of influence on ocean level. First is changing water density due to temperature rise, thus causing warm water layers expand. Second is rapid melting of glaciers, which adds excessive water to river flows.
During last 100 years ocean water level has added 10-20 centimeters, which is 10 times faster than during last 3 000 years. Main explanations for this phenomenon are rise of sea surface temperature and melting of coastal and marine glaciers.
Among other factors, affecting ocean level, there are ocean currents, wind, El Nino temperature anomaly and etc.
