Petroglyphs museum opens in Khakassia
Travel to Russia with Russia-IC services

An open-air museum of petroglyphs has recently opened in the Republic of Khakassia. Its main exhibit is a rock with petroglyphs made by the people of pre-historic culture of Okunevskaya and some latter archaeologic cultures of South Siberia. Museum is called "Maloarbatskaya pisanitsa".
These petroglyphs were detected in 19th century and are being studied since then. The tourists often visit these places to see ancient drawings, but now the guides will tell them about these petroglyphs that they belong to two periods and different cultures. The people of Okunevskaya culture, left petroglyphs of the first period, were Bronze Age nomads and lived in the 2nd millenium B.C.E. The second period includes late drawings and begins in the 17th century.
Museum is supposed to preserve the monument from the people's activity. They believe that the rocke can fulfill the wishes and push notes and letters with their wishes into cracks in the rock, and that doesn't contribute its surface's preservation.
About 120 thousands petroglyphs of different epochs have been survived in the Republic of Khakassia.
Travel to Russia with Russia-IC services. Experience great spaces of Siberia in a trip on Transsib. The tickets for Trans-Siberian Railway can booked here.
