Russian and US Air Forces are to conduct joint exercises codenamed Vigilant Eagle 2010 from August 6-14. The joint exercises improve military cooperation between the two countries.
The cooperative actions of combat units are to deal with acts of terrorism aboard civilian jets and hijacking.
The exercise will be conducted from the US side in Colorado Springs and Elmendorf, near Anchorage in Alaska, and from the Russian side in Khabarovsk and the Kamchatka Peninsula.
The scenario will feature a US civilian plane hijacked by terrorists making its way from Alaska to Russia. A Russian aircraft and a US airborne monitoring plane are to be deployed during the manoeuvre.
