Moscow enveloped in smoke of forest and peat-log fires
Red Square in smoke

Enormous heat wave in the central Russia has caused plenty of forest and peat-log fires in Moscow Region, which are burning in the close vicinity of the capital. The yellow-grey smoke has filled the all the city, decreasing visibility and making breathing dangerous for health.
Moscow is surrounded by peat-logs, which can self-ignite because of high temperatures. Such fires are very difficult to fight because peat layer burns below the surface. Forests and peat-logs have been burning for already several weeks.
At the moment there are 30 wild fires in the forests near Moscow and 11 from them are peat-log ones. Harsh smoke from them has enveloped all the territory of capital. According to lung experts, this smoke is dangerous for health. Breathing such a smog is equal to smoking two packs of sigarettes during a few hours. Moreover, it contents much carbon oxide.
About 2, 500 officers of MES (Ministry of Emergency situations of Russia) and about 800 units of equipment figh with hot spots, but the new ones keep appearing.
In the circumstances concerned we would not recommend you sights of Moscow and St. Petersburg, but souvenirs from Russia. You do not even have to go to Russia to buy them, just choose and place an order here.
