New monuments may appear in Vologda. The city’s department of town-planning has put forward the initiative of establishing monuments to Ivan IV and Peter I. Both of these Russian tsars in different historical periods visited Vologda several times. Steadfast attention of Ivan the Terrible to Vologda in due time even brought about a version that the tsar was going to shift the capital of the Russian state to Vologda. Peter I the Great visited Vologda at least five times. The history monument - "House of Peter I" - on the bank of Vologda river still remains a favourite place of interest both for Vologda dwellers and tourists. The initiative was supported by the Vologda Mayor Evgeny Shulepov. He also mentioned they it is necessary to ask the opinion of townsfolk, if they agree to the initiative of the city administration.
