The Hermitage presents its Russian Empire style collection in new exposition halls of the Genshtab in St.-Petersburg. The exposition includes around six hundred articles of decorative and applied arts, graphics and paintings, created in the first two decades of the 19th centuries.
Triumphal arches, harmoniously imbibed by Russian architecture, are a typical embodiment of the Empire style. In sculpture this style is represented by heroic monuments, such as the monument to Minin and Pozharsky.
It is interesting to note that the Russian empire style which derived from the French empire became a pathetic reflection of the idea of national unity, born in the course of the war with Napoleon Bonaparte.
