Dates in History
1783—Catherine II the Great establishes the Russian Academy.
The empress appoints Princess Ekaterina Romanovna Dashkova to the post of the President of the Academy. Dashkova heads the Russian Academy and later the Academy of Sciences for 11 years. It is the only time in history when a woman takes such a post.
