1896—Faina Ranevskaya, famous Russian actress, is born. For her outstanding roles in Podkidysh (the Foundling), Mechta (the Dream), Svadba (the Wedding), and other films she is awarded the title of People’s artist of the USSR. She is also well-known for her not-trivial personality and way of life. “One could play cards, but one should live on the stage”, she used to say. |
