1865—Zoological garden opens in Saint Petersburg.
More than 2,000 animals, birds and reptiles of 410 different species live in Leningradskiy Zoo now. “Leningradskiy” is kept in the name of the zoo in commemoration of the staff, that managed to save the animals in conditions of the blockade during the Second World War.
