1762German Princess Sophia Augusta Frederika of Anhalt-Zerbst becomes Russian Empress (future Yekaterina II). As a result of conspiracy Peter III (Sophia’s husband) is imprisoned in Ropsha. In a few days following the arrest Peter III dies. During Yekaterina’s reign Russia reestablishes its rights for the Black Sea territories: Crimea, Northern coast of the Black Sea, a part of Kuban. Yekaterina II naturalizes Eastern Georgia, corresponds with Votaire and other figures of the French Enlightenment. |
