7 July — The Day of Ivan Kupala (St. John Baptist's Day)

It is an old Slavic holiday, dating the pagan times. There used to be night revels, during which people performed different rites: herbs and flowers gathering, twining wreathes, divination, swimming. And there always was a huge fire, over which girls and guys were supposed to jump holding each other’s hands. According to the legend, only once a year the fern blooms, and it is said that the blooming fern makes one’s wishes come true and helps to find a treasure.
