1806—Alexander Ivanov, Russian painter, is born. Early stages of Ivanov’s creative work are dedicated to the ancient history and ancient Greek mythology (“Apollo, Cypress and Hyacinth”, for example). In the mid-thirties of the 18th century Ivanov chooses Evangelical themes for painting. Ivanov’s magnum opus “The Appearance of Christ before the People” becomes his life-work, taking 20 years of the painter’s life. |
