1916—Birthday of the Russian Sea Aviation.
On the 17th of July in 1916 Russian pilots won their first victory against the German ones in the air battle.

1846—Nikolay Miklukho-Maklay, ethnographer and traveller, is born.
In 1870-1980 Nikolay Miklukho-Maklay studied native population of South-East Asia, Australia and Oceania, giving much attention to the Papuans of the northeast coast of the New Guinea, which is now named after him.
