1840—Pyotr Tchaikovsky, composer, is born.
Tchaikovsky is an innovator in the field of ballet music: his works are full of continual symphonic development (Swan lake, Sleeping Beauty, The nutcracker). Richness of lyrical melodic, masterly utilization of virtually all the musical genres, brilliant composing technique, very original nature of his work all this makes Tchaikovsky a distinguished figure not only in Russian, but also in world music culture.
