1856—The State Tretyakov Gallery is founded The Tretyakov Gallery is the national museum of Russian fine arts of X–XXI centuries. This day a merchant and collector Pavel Mikhaylovich Tretyakov purchases his first paintings, thus starting the collection. He dreams about creating a museum of Russian national painting school, and dedicates 40 years of his life to this museum. |
