1836This day starts the construction of the first railway in Russia. The route goes from St. Petersburg through Tzarskoe Selo to Pavlovsk. The opening of the railway in 1937 arouses a great resonance within the Russian society. Everywhere – on posters, in newspapers, and on candy one can observe images of steam engines. A vaudeville “Trip to Tzarskoye Selo” is staged in the Alexandrinsky Theatre; the main character of the play is a steam engine. |
