Dates in History
1836—This day starts the construction of the first railway in Russia.
The route goes from St. Petersburg through Tzarskoe Selo to Pavlovsk. The opening of the railway in 1937 arouses a great resonance within the Russian society. Everywhere – on posters, in newspapers, and on candy one can observe images of steam engines. A vaudeville “Trip to Tzarskoye Selo” is staged in the Alexandrinsky Theatre; the main character of the play is a steam engine.
