1898—The first Russian hockey match takes place in St. Petersburg. Members of two teams skate with sticks in hands and try to drive a small gutta-percha ball in the opponents’ goal. This day is considered to be the birth day of Russian hockey.
1535—Currency reform in Russia. | Unified monetary system is introduced. The only legitimate currency is the new silver coins: kopeyka, denga, and polushka, which are cast by the Sovereign’s Mint. Counterfeiting and cutting money in pieces is prohibited from this day on. It is also a birth day of kopeyka. |
