Birobidzhan, the capital city of the Jewish Autonomous District in Russia, was founded in 1915.

1931—Mikhail Gorbachev, the first and the last President of the USSR, is born.
In 1980 Mikhail GOrbachev receives Nobel Prize in Peace in 1980, and in 2004 he wins Grammy Award in the "Spoken Word Album for Children" category for his work on the "Peter and the Wolf" CD. The CD is based on Prokofyev’s musical fairy tale. Gorbachev narrates the prologue and the epilogue to the story.
