1930—Zhores Alferov, physicist, is born.
Alferov is a director of St. Petersburg Ioffe Institute of Applied-Physics, vice president of Russian Academy of Science. In 2000 he receives Nobel prize “for developing semiconductor heterostructures used in high-speed- and opto-electronics” (in partnership with Herbert Kroemer and Jack S. Kilby). He is also a deputy of State Duma of Russian Federation.
