Dates in History
1897—The first All-Russian census is held.
According to the census’ results, there are 126,4 million people living in Russia.

1887—Vasily Chapayev, Hero of the Civil War, is born.
He is known to every Russian as the hero of thousands of jokes.

1874—Vsevolod Meyerkhold, theatrical director, is born.
Vsevolod Meyerkhold creates new style of stage performance: reduction of decorative elements, introducing symbolizing into stage decorations, costumes, lighting, and even acting.

1783—Vasily Zhukovsky, poet, is born.
Zhukovsky is the main poet of Russian Romanticism. He is a good friend of Alexander Pushkin, and great influence on him too, some say that without Zhukovsky there wouldn’t be Pushkin.
