1883—Evgeny Vakhtangov, theatre director, is born
Vakhtangov is famous for its so-called "popular" theatre.As opposed to Stanislavsky,he suggested to separate the personality of an actor from his scene character.Some years later Vachtangov Drama School and Vachtangov Theatre were opened.

1873—Fyodor Shalyapin, singer, is born.
Shalyapin is an opera-singer, his performances at La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, and Bolshoi Theatre bring him worldwide success. In 1918 he becomes a National Artist of the Republic, and in 1922 he leaves his motherland forever, because he cannot agree with the new Soviet course Russia is taking.
