Dates in History
1903—Evgeny Petrov, writer, is born.
In collaboration with Ilya Ilf he creates Ostap Bender, the most charming con-man in Russian literature. Ostap Bender appears in two of their novels: 12 Chairs and The Golden Calf.

1873—Valery Bryusov, poet, is born.
One of the most famous poets of the Silver Age of Russian Poetry (the first quarter of the twentieth century).

1848—The first mail boxes are installed in St. Petersburg, the capital of Russia.
They are dark-blue, made of wood and upholstered with iron plates.
