In 1994-2004 this day is celebrated as a national holiday, the Day of the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
1941Vitaly Solomin, actor, is born. | People know him mostly as Doctor Watson in Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson TV series. The English critics recognize Vitaly Solomin and Vasily Livanov (actor who played Sherlock Holmes) as the best continental Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.
1925Vladimir Shainsky, composer, is born. | Author of many children songs, which appeared in Soviet cartoons and films.
1766Nikolay Karamzin, writer, historian, is born. | In 1816-1829 he writes “The History of the Russian State”, one of the most significant books on Russian history.
1606Defeat of Bolotnikov’s Army at the battle of Moscow. | Ivan the Terrible dies leaving no heir to the throne. Some person, who calls himself Dmitry, claims to be the mysteriously saved Ivan the Terrible’s son (in reality Dmitry is killed by Ivan the Terrible) and becomes the next tzar, but he is dethroned and killed in 1606. After False Dmitry’s death a Cossack Bolotnikov proclaims himself the Tzar Dmitry’s Military Leader and starts a rebellious war against the new ruler Vasily Shuysky; soon after losing the Battle of Moscow he loses the war. |
