1797—Ferdinand Vrangel, seafarer, admiral, is born.
Vrangel is director of Russian-American Company and ruler of Russian settlements in North America, and also one of the founders of the Russian Geographical Society. When Russia decides to sell Alaska to the USA Ferdinand Vrangel is against it, but he is already retired and has no power to change this decision.
