1870—Alexander Kuprin, writer, is born.
Kuprin is one of the most popular Russian writers of the late 19th – early 20th cc. He is the author of the famous Olesya, The Duel, The Pit, and The Garnet Bracelet.

1812—Borodino Battle
On 7 September, 1812 the Russian army headed by Kutuzov fights the Napoleonic troops by the Borodino settlement. About 250 thousand soldiers on both sides take part in the wasting battle that lasts for 12 hours and is not won by anyone. The losses of Napoleon exceed 58 thousand people, including 47 generals, while the Russians loose 14 thousand less people. Peter Bagration is deadly wounded; 23 Russian generals die.
