Dates in History
1812—Alexander Gertsen, writer, revolutionary, is born.
He starts his revolutionary activity under the influence of Utopian socialists. In 1834 he is banished to Perm and later to Vyatka (now Kirov). Because of his revolutionary activity in 1851 he is exiled from Russia forever. In 1857 Gertsen establishes a magazine “Kolokol” (Bell), where he demands emancipation of serfs, abolishment of censorship, public court, and other reforms. His works have a huge impact on the young generation of revolutionaries.
