1952Hermitage Museum is opened for public By the time of its opening the museum had already posssesed rich collections of ancient and medieval art,monuments of Asia,Europe and Russia. Nowadays the museum consists of six buildings,located along the bank of Neva.
1740Curious wedding in the Ice House takes place. | Prince Golitsyn comes back from Italy with Italian wife and being converted into Catholicism, which irritates the Empress Anna Ioannovna greatly. She makes the prince her jester, dissolves his marriage, and makes him marry an ugly female jester. Specially for this occasion a real palace is made of ice: walls, doors, furniture, dishes, and even the marriage bed are made of ice. The newly-wed are put to bed, and sentries are put outside the house to guard the prince and his new wife so they don’t escape before the morning. |
