January, 31st is International Jeweler’s Day.

The history of jewellery in Russia has roots stretching far back and starts from the foundation of the Kievan Russia and the Vladimir-Suzdal Princedom (9th -12th centuries). The ancient Russian cities of Velikiy Ustyug, Vologda, Kostroma, Nizhni Novgorod, Novgorod, Pskov, Yaroslavl, St. Petersburg, Moscow and many others were the centers of Russian goldsmith’s work in various periods.

Dates in History
1990—The first McDonald’s opens in Moscow.
It is the first sign of the coming dramatic changes in our country’s life.

1878—Russian-Turkish War ends after several Russia’s victories gained by generals Gurko and Skobelev.
Armistice is signed in Adrianople between the countries.

1865—Birthday of Russian vodka
January, 31st is the birthday of the classical Russian vodka. On this day in 1865 in St. Petersburg Dmitri Mendeleev defended his doctor’s dissertation “On the Combinations of Water with Alcohol” dedicated to the theory of solutions. Traditionally different sorts of vodka – from 20 to 60 degrees of strength – were produced in Russia but the ideal proof of 40 degrees for vodka was defined by Dmitri Mendeleev’s scientific research “On the Combinations of Water with Alcohol”.
