1907—Sergey Korolyov, constructor, scholar, is born.
In 1955 Sergey Korolyov is in charge of construction of the first spaceship. In 1957 he directs the launch of the first satellite.

1903—Igor Kurchatov, physicist is born.
Kurchatov is the scientific chief of the Soviet Nuclear Program.

1898—Starts working the first long-distance telephone line connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg.

1895—Viktor Vinogradov, linguist, specialist in study of literature, is born.
The Institute of the Russian language in Moscow is named after him.

1772—Mikhail Speransky, count, famous refomer, is born.
Mikhail Speransky is one of the most significant Russian statesmen of XIX century. Anybody who takes interest in history of Russian state development will sooner or later run across his name.
