Young musicians from 19 countries will participate in the VIII International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. The creative competition will start on Monday in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.
The participants come from Australia, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Kazakhstan, China, Russia, USA, Ukraine, France and other countries. The chairpersons of the jury will be the famous musicians from foreign countries for the first time in the history of the competition.
The jury includes also the invited winners of previous Tchaikovsky Competitions for Young and young performers, as the press release notes. The pianist Vladimir Ovchinnikov, the cellist Kirill Rodin, the violinist Aiman Musakhadzhaeva, the Eurasian Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Aydar Torybaev (Kazakhstan) will perform at the opening ceremony in the Great Hall.
The competition is held in the categories “piano”, “violin” and “cello”. The first and the second rounds will be held on June 24-29 at the Moscow Conservatory and the Gnesins’ Academy. The third round with two symphony orchestras – “New Russia” under the direction of Yuri Bashmet and the Eurasian Symphony Orchestra (Kazakhstan) - at the Great Hall is scheduled for June 30 -July 2.
The closing ceremony of the music forum will be held in the Great Hall on July 3.
The International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians was founded in 1992. Since then it has been held seven times in Russia, Asia and Europe and has become a major international event of cultural life. The music competition is organized by the Association of the winners of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the Moscow State Conservatory, the Gnesins’ Russian Academy of Music, as well as the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory.
The qualifying round of the competition revealing young talents - students of art schools in Moscow and around - was held in the framework of International Chamber Music Festival “Spring in Russia” in the capital in April 2014. The winners of the youth competition participate in the adult competition. The main goal of the competition is education. About a thousand young musicians from 32 countries have participated in previous competitions.
