Scientists of the Virology and Biotechnology Scientific Center "Vector" jointly with the leading institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences have come up with the method of express erythrocyte diagnostics of various diseases. It is based on exposure of red blood cells to electric discharges.
This was reported to TASS by one of its developers, Margarita Kruchinina, M.D., a leading expert of the Scientific Research Institute of Therapy and Applied Medicine.
"Red blood cells are the mirror of health of the organism as a whole. Based on their condition we can assess the health of the body in general. We check blood cells in 20 various parameters in real-time mode with subsequent processing of the result. Dielectrophoresis is a complex method of diagnozing an organism, whatever pathology it may suffer", - she said.
Margarita Kruchinina added that this unique technology makes it possible to detect the disease parameters, which cannot be discerned by other methods.
"Moreover, it combines the functions that lots of expensive devices do separately", - the scientist pointed out.
"A blood drop is taken and the electricity-generating equipment is turned on. The data is sent through a microscope to a video camera and then to the computer to be processed. The whole procedure takes no more than five minutes", - Vladimir Generalov, Doctor of Engineering, the leading researcher of Vector explained.
Researches were conducted for 10 years. Initially the method appeared for identification of especially dangerous viruses, which are studied by the Vector Centre. Afterwards the scientists came to investigate other pathologies, including those of internal organs. They found out that particular combinations of blood cell parameters reflect certain diseases.
Thus it is possible to diagnose practically any diseases, including those of internals and cardiovascular system, brain pathologies, as well as some types of cancer.
The obtained results of the research have been presented at over 50 Russian, and 15 world and European congresses. The method has been patented, and the certification of the erythrocyte diagnostics device is presently underway.
