Cirque du Soleil’s OVO Show to Tour Across Russia
March 26, 2018 13:45

An incredibly beautiful show about insects' realm as performed by the outstanding troupe Cirque du Soleil in Russia...
Where is OVO Coming To?

In the spring and summer of 2018, Cirque du Soleil will introduce the viewers of St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Togliatti and Sochi to the miniature universe located at our feet, to the fascinating world of insects from the OVO show.

Russian tours of the OVO show will start in St. Petersburg on April 28, 2018.
From July 10 to July 29, 2018 you can enjoy the performance in Sochi.

Anniversary Show
The OVO show is the 25th stage production of Cirque du Soleil, which premiered in 2009 in Montreal, as part of celebrating the company’s 25th anniversary. Cirque du Soleil had been looking for an idea for its anniversary show, before the colony of insects proved to be the ideal embodiment for the concept of harmonious coexistence of a wide variety of species. Although we rarely perceive entomology as something elegant, the work by the director and choreographer Deborah Kolker has endowed the world of beetles and spiders with grace, charm and excitement. World famous circus masters will plunge the viewers into an amazing ecosystem that is invisible to a naked eye, but incredibly vibrant, hilarious, and bustling. Things are humming here all around.

What’s the Story About?

Spectators will live a whole day in the colony of winged, extremely curious, dangerous and beautiful inhabitants of the OVO world, to enjoy the sunrise, feel the bliss of flying, experience the sense of uselessness, overcome their fears and finally fall in love.

Out of the blue, a mysterious egg appears in the world of insects. Inhabitants of the OVO world are both horrified and burning with curiosity: where has this symbol of the circle of life has come from, and what secret truth is it concealing? To make it more interesting, an awkward and strange insect enters this turbulent world and immediately falls in love with a gorgeous ladybug ... And it turns to be mutual.
Who is Going to Like it?
Thus, OVO explores not only the themes of wildlife, the plasticity of insects and acrobatics, but also the idea of accepting "otherness", which is so typical of Cirque du Soleil, whose employees represent almost 50 countries and speak 25 languages.

Tim Bennett, art director of the show: “The OVO show will appeal to the family audience. It will be loved by children. The themes and meanings of the show are universal. Even if you've already seen Cirque du Soleil, OVO will introduce you to the new facets of our creativity. You will plunge into a new fantasy. The colony of charming insects OVO is looking forward to meeting with the Russian audience, and our team is getting to know Russia, because knowledge and cooperation unite us”.

"For the first time Cirque du Soleil is bringing to Russia a show that is ideal for children. Children will enjoy the characters, bright colors, Brazilian music and rapid acrobatics, and parents will once again enjoy the highest level of mastery, perfect costumes and live musical performance”,
- Natalia Romanova, CEO of Cirque du Soleil in Russia says.

Gigantic elements of scenography - a nine-meter flower, an 8.5 meter long egg, the macroimage of a miniature forest - confuse the perspective. Thus, the viewer truly feels like a tiny ant – a part of the microcosm that is barely visible due to its miniature size, but infinitely interesting and entertaining.

When: from July 10 to July 25, 2018
Where: the Bolshoi Ice Dome at the address Imeretinskaya Lowland, Olympic Park, Sochi
