WINZAVOD Centre for Contemporary Arts in Moscow
December 17, 2015 11:23

The idea to turn a desolate winery into a culture oasis dawned on Roman Trotsenko after him seeing graffiti painted walls of a spacious empty building. The huge area of seven ancient pavilions built in the beginning of the 19th century was perfectly suitable for housing exhibition galleries. The project was implemented fast enough, and the year 2007 saw the ceremonial opening of the art center. Now it is one of the largest exhibition venues of Moscow.

Originally the halls were used only as galleries for exhibitions of artists, architects, photographers, sculptors and representatives of other visual arts. Soon, however, theater actors, stage directors, poets, and musicians were attracted as well. By 2010 WINZAVOD became one of the most popular leisure and entertainment places among the modern youth.
Today the complex consists of art galleries, twenty shops, educational workshops and three unusual cafes, such as Tsurtsum, Khitrye Lyudi (Cunning People) and Poleznoye Mesto (A Useful Place).

Various creative evenings and author's recitals are regularly held in Tsurtsum. The second cafe will treat visitors with the author's dishes that can hardly be found in any other Moscow restaurant. Useful Place is a quiet coffee house, where one can work making use of office supplies, as well as printing and scanning services.

Workshops are presented here with the dancing studio DanceOptions that teaches both ball, and modern choreography, schools for visual and digital arts, a collector school, where one can see a collection of art rarities, and the creative space REBEL ART HOUSE, which is a perfect venue to relax and meet new friends. One should also note children's developing programs that take place here.

WINZAVOD has a big variety of shops, which offer both small handmade knickknacks and quite serious design items from the MUSTANG JEANS showroom and the Fashion House of Tegin. There is even a furniture shop here, but most of the shops are focused on books. Several second-hand bookstores are available here at once. The vinyl record gallery 33 1/3 has become the highlight of all markets, of course.

WINZAVOD is located at the address: 1/6, 4th Syromyatnichesky Lane, near Kurskaya and Chkalovskaya metro stations, Moscow.
