The exhibition of cotton shawls of late XIX - early XX centuries will be opened on July 5, 2013 in Presentation and Exhibition Center Museum-Reservation "Kizhi", Petrozavodsk. The exhibition introduces one of the most significant Russian models of cotton kerchiefs of late nineteenth - early twentieth century from the collection of the Sergiev Posad State History and Art Museum-Reservation.
The exposition presents the earliest scarves made manually and scarves of some factories (Kotov, Bobrov, Gyubner, Tretyakov Moscow factories manufactures of Vladimirskaya province belonging to Baranov, Posylin, Rubachyov families. There is also a collection of calico shawls of various manufactories with drawings on historical themes (the Patriotic War of 1812, celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty).
The emergence of cotton shawls fashion among the people contributed to its production development. Calico shawls lived long in a peasant and middle-class homes, some of them complemented, while others replaced vintage hats, becoming an integral part of the traditional women's costume. There will be women's folk costumes of Penza, Voronezh, Tambov, Archangelsk provinces, jewelry and other items of peasant life connected with women.
The exhibition will be open until October 6, 2013, according to the Museum-Reservation “Kizhi”.
