October 10, 2018 18:45

Sergiev Posad - Pereslavl-ZalesskyRostov - Yaroslavl - Kostroma - Ivanovo - Suzdal - Vladimir - these are the cities of the famous Golden Ring of Russia. Each city in this list is special and keeps the traditions of Russian culture. Naturally, Russian cuisine is an integral part of it. When traveling around the Golden Ring, use the opportunity to try local dishes so you can take back home with you not only Russian souvenirs, but delicious impressions as well.

Sergiev Posad
The Trinity Sergius Lavra is the heart of Sergiev Posad. This ancient monastery was a pilgrimage destination for Russian tsars. Ivan the Terrible was baptized here. The monastery was designed by the best architects of Russia of the XV-XIX centuries. Once you are here, try and taste the traditional Russian monastic cuisine inside the monastery itself. Pike perch is considered the leanest fish and so it is most favorable here. Lots of salutary, tasty and unusual dishes are cooked from it. A good example is Monastic Stuffed Pike Perch

Pereslavl-Zalessky
The second part in the city’s name comes from its oldest territory called Zalesye. It is in this ancient town, founded in the XII century, that trying fabulous dishes of the Russian cuisine will feel most rewarding.
One of them might be the traditional Russian dish Fish Tel’no, which is sort of pounded steak from inexpensive river fish, such as perch, pike, or pike perch.

Rostov
The small town of Rostov has held the annual Onion Festival several times already.
There you can taste exclusive onion dishes prepared according to both ancient and innovative recipes. One of the most amazing and unusual of them is Onion Jam

Yaroslavl

The ancient town of Yaroslavl harbours the Transfiguration Monastery and the Refectory Church, where the Russian tsar liked to eat.
The menu traditionally included fish pies, which were considered a festive dish in Russia.

Kostroma
Kostroma is an old Russian city with a historical layout structure, approved by Catherine II yet.
Guests are always treated profusely and abundantly here.
An absolutely necessary element of any menu is savoury mushroom dishes. One of the favourites is a hot snack of mushrooms in cream sauce, sprinkled with grated cheese and baked until golden brown.

Suzdal
Suzdal is one of the oldest cities in Russia. Gardening has long been one of the main occupations of the local dwellers. The main crops are horseradish and cucumber. Even the Cucumber Day has been celebrated here since 2001. Today, the cucumber has become one of the city’s brands, just like medovukha aka honey wine. In addition to traditional cucumber pickles, in Suzdal you will be treated to the most unexpected cucumber dishes. For example, try Salmon in Cucumber Jelly

Vladimir
Vladimir was the nominal capital of Old Northeast Russia for two centuries. It was here that grand princes were crowned. Certain recipes of the princely menu have come down to us here. For example, Lamb Ushno, which is lamb meat stewed in a pot.
