The Russian government has approved the procedure for storing all internet traffic of Russian users. According to the document, from October 1, 2018 the communication service providers will save all information of users in full for last 30 days.
At the same time, the volume of traffic to be saved annually will grow by 15 percent within five years. The list of information for collection includes voice and text messages, images, audio and video. The operators are required to save the data on the facts of receiving and transmitting the calls, messages and other content for six months.
The approval of the traffic storage procedure was carried out as part of the implementation of package of anti-terrorist laws, also known as Yarovaya package, adopted in June 2016. In particular, these laws give the police the right to ask the providers for information about customers, and for the Federal Security Service - to require the encryption keys from the social networks and messengers.
In September 2016, Rostekh published the preliminary estimates according to which the implementation of the Yarovaya package, in particular the localization of hardware and software, would cost 10.3 billion rubles.
